Happy holidays are coming!! Just keeping you up to date with our planned closures for the upcoming holiday periods to help you plan ahead.

You can still book online for any service or class via the website links to Mindbody - black link at the top of any page.

Remember if you still want to do a class when we are closed (to earn brownie points!), you can use one of the classes you have downloaded, and you also have free access to the library of classes on Youtube where there is Pilates, Yoga and Stretching classes for many levels and Body Conditioning also.

Just keeping you up to date with our planned closures for the upcoming holiday periods to help you plan ahead.

Class Holidays Closures

June 2022

The classes will be running as normal from Thursday 23rd - Thursday 30th June with the ever active and bubbly Tracy covering for Tanya.

The Thursday 10am class will run on Tuesday 21st instead of the 23rd with Tanya, and there will be no 10am class on 30th June, so make sure to jump in for another class that week in the evenings to keep you moving.

Also:

Thursday 30th June 6.30pm class has been amalgamated in with the 7.30pm Pilates class.

Mon 27th June 8.30pm class has been amalgamated in with the 7.30pm gentle yoga class.

Thursday 30th June 6.30pm class has been amalgamated in with the 7.30pm Pilates class.

If you are changing class or want to, you can do this on mindbody, and use the appropriate zoom sign ins from below if attending  online.

Any probs - drop me a text!

Also remember on mon 27th June there is a parade in the town scheduled 6-10pm, so if attending in studio, allow time for parking. Details were posted onto the TDR Academy Facebook page and on the Love Ballyclare page about where they are going.

No rest for you guys before your summer break!

The classes will be off from 4-14th July 2022.

Classes will start back with Tanya and Jo from 18th July as normal.

Clinic Closures

The clinic will be closed from Thursday 23rd June -13th July 2022, inclusive.

Tanya starts back in the clinic from Thursday 14th July.

Ballyclare's May Fair is Coming to Town!

Hasn’t time flown by due to covid and now the Ballyclare May Fair is back on, post covid (hopeful)!

You can find out what’s happening on the Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council’s website.

Please read on for the car parking arrangements in the town.

The big 5 & 10K race is on with the Co. Antrim Harriers too!

Hasn’t time flown by due to covid and now the Ballyclare May Fair is back on, post covid (hopeful)!

Here is a quick look below. Some events are starting this Saturday 21st May and all winds up next Saturday 28th May.


Getting Parked Next Week!


All classes and appointments are as normal all week - just allow a little more time for parking.

This event results in closures around the town including disruption to parking, so please plan your route ahead to ensure you leave enough time to arrive for your appointment/class.

Tanya will post some updates through the week on our FaceBook page if any different scenarios present on parking!

The Council tell us that the following closures apply during the week of the May Fair:

Both Harrier Way Car Park (beside the football grounds) and The Square Car Park (centre of the town) will be closed for the full week of the May Fair (21st – 28th).

There will be three road closures in operation throughout the May Fair.

1. Harrier Way, 9:30am Tuesday 24th May – midnight Sunday 29th May.

2. Main Street, 10am – 5pm Tuesday 24th May

3. Ballyeaston Road, 5:30pm – 8:30pm Thursday 26th May


There will be some additional parking provision at Ballyclare Presbyterian Church and along the other roads leading to the Square e.g. Doagh Road, Rashee Road and Ballyeaston Road. Some people also park in Asda or in Grange Street (towards Home Bargains).

Pavements will remain open throughout the town.

On every day except the Tuesday 24th and Saturday 28th traffic will be able to move around the Town Centre as normal towards Asda. On these two days (times as above) there will be no traffic on the square, however the Doagh Road along the top of the square will remain open so people can come in that way and make their way to Asda, Rashee Road and Ballyeaston Road.


Hopefully this map on the May Fair programme is helpful.

If not, please contact me to find out what I can help with. I will probably have to park in the leisure centre car park if early enough, or go via the new road from the Templepatrick Road A57 to the Doagh Road and then to the Asda car park. The Asda car park may be the best.

Again as I see what is unfolding, I will update on Facebook and Instagram through the week to help your journey be smoother.


The Big Race!

One of the highlights is the Mayfair 10k Race and 5k Fun Run, organised by the Co. Antrim Harriers on Saturday 28th May 2022 at 10.00am. We always support this event as it is a great event run by an amazing bunch!

There’s still time to book before entries close at 11.45pm on Sunday 22nd May.

Notification of Price Increases (From 6th April 2022) & Some Exciting News!

We have sadly had to make the decision to increase our prices. We haven’t increased our prices since 01/01/2018, and have born the brunt of the additional costs through the covid pandemic and the current price increases of everything else around us, but upon financial review, we have had to increase our prices.

The additional benefits we have provided over the past 2 years are the free online resources via Youtube and the provision of online classes, of which the recordings have been made available for you to download and repeat the class as many times as you wish. We are currently creating an on demand library of the videos of the classes which is available to those who have signed up for the yearly memberships to classes (paying via our autopay system).

Room rental also coming soon!!


Price Increase Notification & Some Exciting News!

We have not taken this decision lightly, but have sadly had to make the decision to increase our prices.

We haven’t increased our prices since 01/01/2018, and have born the brunt of the additional costs through the covid pandemic and the current price increases of everything else around us, but upon financial review, we have had to increase our prices.

We have been working hard over the last 2 years to bring you additional benefits which are currently free:

  • Online resources via Youtube to help you when you have something irritating going on in the body, if you want to try some Pilates, Yoga or stretching sessions, or even to take our 14 day challenge which starts from therapy basics to more movement throughout.

  • We have also been teaching online classes, of which the recordings have been made available for class members to download and repeat the class as many times as you wish.

  • We are currently creating an on demand library of the videos of the classes, which is only available to those who have signed up for the yearly memberships to classes (paying via our autopay system).

  • We are looking into other ways to provide you with online content to help you when it suits you and when you need it.

Please see the pricing sections of the website for further clarification, but the approximate increase will be:

  • £3 per Treatment and Personal Training Sessions (the increase will be pro rata for sessions longer than 1 hr), and

  • Classes will be up to £54 for a 6 week block and £9.50 for drop in rates. We are looking into other ways to provide you with online content to help you when it suits you and when you need it.

Any other other changes will be added once confirmed.

The increase will be effective from 06/04/2022.


Some Exciting News!

In the near future, we hope to bring you additional provision of services at TDR Academy.

Some rooms will be available to rent in the near future to suitable service providers that meet with our ethos, goals, aims and mission statement.

We aim to keep providing a high standard of professionally qualified and experienced therapists and teachers.

We will notify you when this comes to fruition!

Easing of Restrictions at TDR Academy February 2022

GOOD NEWS!! As restrictions have eased again, we are now almost back to normal!! We are still asking for masks to be worn in treatments and off the mats, but prior covid screening has been removed. We just ask that you reschedule if feeling in any way unwell or have any symptoms of any coughs/colds/flu/covid. We want to stay open to keep helping you and if we end up feeling unwell we have to close! Apart from that - we are back to using all equipment, props and space! Hope to see you soon!

Update Regarding Latest Release on

Government Restrictions (From 16 February 2022)

GOOD NEWS!!

We are making things even simpler now that more restrictions have been eased.

All of our services are fully operational and running smoothly, despite being quite busy!

So if we don’t respond straight away, please forgive me but I will reply as soon as I can!

What has changed since our last update:

  • We do not require the online screening questionnaire to be completed before attending anymore, however we are asking:

  • If you have any symptoms of anything, eg, covid, a cold, a cough or just feel unwell, that you contact us at the earliest time to reschedule your appointment (contact Tanya on 07879415711 by text.)

  • If you are unsure regarding recent close contact with someone with covid or if you are recovering from covid, you must be free from symptoms and we ask that you please take a lateral flow test the day before and on the morning before attending for your appointment/class. Both must be negative or we will ask that you reschedule your appointment. (This is normally a 2 week period minimum for most people from the start of symptoms).

  • Taking a lateral flow test the morning before your appointment/class is good practice for all concerned even if you are well.

  • We are still taking your temperature on arrival.

  • Masks must be worn if in close contact and in communal areas (or a visor if medically exempt),

  • Maintaining some social distancing is still preferred were possible,

  • Bring your own towels (3 large) for treatments as we are still endeavouring to reduce the risk of cross infection.

  • We are providing all equipment and props for use in appointments and classes. We are not quarantining items anymore or cleaning props but mats must still be cleaned after use. It is your choice to use any of our equipment and props or bring your own knowing our procedures.

  • The coat hangers and storage units in the hall are now being used for all shoes and belongings for those attending classes.


Tanya will be wearing PPE in the same stance and will continue to take all advised measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We are only offering some tactile coaching points in class to again reduce the risk of cross-infection.

Catching any bugs means total closure - so for you and Tanya, this is important to stay bug free inside TDR so we can remain open!

Our emails that are sent out to you when you book in or attend classes have the up-to-date information - so please read it to become familiar with what we are asking.

This is what it says:

** Current Covid Procedures - please read (updated 16/02/2022) **

Due to the increasing likelihood of any bugs spreading, not just covid, as all covid rules are ended, your therapist will have to cancel all appointments/classes if they become unwell in any way, so we are trying to reduce this risk and inconvenience for all.

If you are unsure regarding recent close contact with someone with covid or if you are recovering from covid, you must be free from symptoms and we ask that you please take a lateral flow test the day before and on the morning before attending for your appointment/class. We are still checking temperatures when you attend and a high temperature will result in cancellation of the appointment/class due to the nature of being in close contact, for everyones safety.

You will receive a text the day before your appointment - please respond advising your therapist if you are fully well to attend, and also advise on the morning before again if you are still well.

For classes every week, you will not receive this text - but the onus is on you to inform Tanya by text if anything changes.

If you need to bring anyone with you to the appointment, the procedures apply equally to them also regarding wearing masks, feeling well, no recent covid contact and with a negative lateral flow test.


What To Bring To Your Appointment/Class and Cancellation Policy Reminder

Please wear a mask and for treatments, bring 3 large towels (for warmth and to fully cover you).

If this is your FIRST appointment/class, please bring a pen as you will need to complete the standard health screening forms - please arrive 5-10 minutes early for your appointment, and bring reading glasses if required. This can be sent to you online by email prior if you prefer. Please contact Tanya to receive this.

If you have attended previously, please update us of any changes to your personal or health details.

Please arrive on time for your appointment/class. We are unable to extend your appointment time if you arrive late due to our appointments running consecutively. Your appointment will still be charged at the full rate.

Reservations can be cancelled online at least 24 hours in advance with no charge. If you do not show up for a reserved appointment, or provide less than 24 hours notice of cancellation, you will be charged the full cost of the appointment, unless there is enough time to fill the appointment.


Use of Equipment

We are now using all of our available equipment and props in appointments and classes and are not quarantining any items. Only the mats and other vinyl surfaces can be cleaned, the props can not. It is your choice if you wish to use our equipment in this respect, or you can bring your own mat and props as preferred.

For classes, please use the storage units and coat racks in the hall for your shoes and belongings, bringing only your valuables into the studio if preferred.


Possible Covid Symptoms Reminder - please do not attend if you have any of these.

  • Fever

  • Persistent dry cough

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • Change (including loss) of taste and smell

Some sufferers have experienced others including:

  • Chest tightness

  • Muscle pain and fatigue

  • Sore throat

  • Congestion

  • Headache

  • Phlegm

Do You Stretch? Simple Question - Right?

Whilst listening to a podcast on neurodynamics, and reflecting on the many conversations i have in the clinic and in classes, and the myths that are sometimes spread on social media in response to fads and to 1 research study on 17 people (so of course this applies to everyone and everything 🤦‍♀️) that the take away points are often misled in a person’s personal situation.🤷‍♀️
I have studied for many years and fads come and go and research that says one thing, well if you keep reading you will find another research study that says the opposite! It makes it hard for people to discern what to do and what not to do.🤷‍♂️

Why do you stretch??

☺️ My office on Saturday past….to continue with more cpd with a sea view - good for the soul.

The knowledge journey is never ending as we can never know it all…its all a learning journey that helps us with work, rest and play.

I have studied for many years and fads come and go and research that says one thing, well if you keep reading you will find another research study that says the opposite! It makes it hard for people to discern what to do and what not to do.🤷‍♂️

I’m a believer that you do what works, and self experimenting under the advice of someone that is qualified, experienced and well researched is key, and that also practices what they preach for realism!✋

I try to do all of this to give my version of best advice and offer best practice.👌

So it got me thinking, as self relection is something i’ve always done (and I always advise!):

❓Do you stretch?

❓ Do you know when to stretch?

❓ Do you know why you stretch?

❓ Do you know what tissues you are stretching?

❓ Do you know there are many different methods of how to stretch?

❓ Do you know how long to hold stretches for or what to feel, to know if you are ‘doing it right’?

❓ Do you know what bodily factors can assist or hinder stretching?

❓ Do you know what other modalities can aid stretching to be more or less effective?

❓ Do you know that specific stretching methods can have different effects on different tissues and on different injuries and medical conditions?

❓ Do you when stretching is safe and not safe to do?

❓ Do you know that there are different suggestions for different sports, daily activities, hobbies, injuries, medical conditions, rehab, selfcare, yoga, Pilates, fitness, warm ups and cool downs?

Alot of questions, as stretching ain’t as simple as it first seems.🆘

✳️ Skin, fascia/connective tissues, muscles, tendons, ligaments, joint capsules, bone lengths, joints shapes, fatty tissues, nerves are all impacted by stretching and can have an impact on its success.

✅ The American College of Sports Medicine have recommended that we should stretch 6 days a week, would you know what to do?

Multifaceted for sure!

So when i ask you, or you ask yourself if you stretch, think about your answer. You now have an idea if I go quiet, what questions I want to ask you - and thats just the tip of the iceberg!! And then I ask gently!😬

Quick Update!

  1. We can now accept your £100 high street vouchers! You have to call in to use it as chip and pin purchase, and the credit can be applied to your account with us to spend over the next 3 months. Invest in your health!

  2. We are now accepting Apple Pay and contactless card payments.

  3. I have also updated the payment system on Mindbody, as all classes are now on the same pricing system. You will notice it is either a:

  • 1 Class Pass (Drop In - previously PAYG) or

  • 6 Class Pass (1 Class/Wk for 6 Wks), and

  • The LIVE & UNLIMITED ONLINE 1, 2 and 4 Wk Class Passes are also still available, enabling you to practice as many times as you want!

In Studio Classes - the nuts and bolts:

  • In studio classes have a maximum of 4 mats at present, which allows us to keep between 1-2m social distancing.

  • Masks are to be worn when moving about in communal areas, and can be removed when on your mat.

  • Please arrive no more than 5 mins prior to your class time and wait in the studio 1 waiting area if there is a class already on in studio 2.

  • Temperatures are being checked on arrival.

  • Our wellness policy means you must be fully well to attend in studio classes (and treatments). Any sniffles, sore throats or other covid, cold and flu symptoms, feeling under the weather and well any bugs really - please stay at home and practice online with us instead. We want everyone to stay safe from everything in this climate! Text Tanya prior if you are unsure - but any doubts - best to stay at home! (First time attending in studio - complete our covid screening form online when you receive your text from Tanya.)

  • Bring a mat and any props (pillow, belt, blocks, bands) with you for your personal use.

  • Classes are set at a maximum capacity of 15 at present (4 in studio and 11 online at present).

  • Remember that you can use the Mindbody booking system via your web browser for the full site or through the app to book and change your classes and appointments as needed.

Note - If you know you can’t attend in studio when your mat is booked, please text Tanya asap to enable someone else to avail of the place due to our limited mat spaces.

How to Get the Best From Online Classes

Training online at home with zoom classes can sometimes feel less of a challenge!” - Is this you?!

I hear this from time to time. I actually prefer training at home than in a class - personal preference!

I do enjoy classes, but I love to be able to immerse myself in the quiet of my personal training space.

So I have put a few pointers down to help you get the best out of online sessions, here are some suggestions to get you set up practically, mentally and physically.

Practical Set-up:

  • Prepare your workout space - your mat and all possible props within easy reach.

  • Aim to have a quiet space, closed off for you (with a do not disturb sign on the door if need be!), even locking the door so no-one can pull you away!

  • Set up your device to be easily seen and to see you sideways on when on your mat as best as possible.

  • You can have music playing if you prefer to be on mute when the class is on.

  • Ensure the lighting inspires your mood (bright or dim as needed) and the temperature is warm enough to help you for the warm-up in the class.

Physical Prep:

  • Arrive on time for your class with zoom set-up and being ready in the waiting room with the view of your mat set-up (preferably so I can see the long edge of your mat).

  • If your class starts a little late, use this as time to settle your body on to your mat - this is your time so make use of every second.

  • Dress for class just as you would if attending in studio in loose comfortable clothing. PJs are great, but sometimes not as comfortable a fit for movement or as breathable.

  • Have some water handy to rehydrate during the class.

Mental Prep:

  • Whatever your mood, wear training clothing that inspires you and that feels very comfortable and easily breathable. Warm enough or cool enough as you require, layering often works best. Like I said, PJs are great, but that isn’t getting your headspace into your focussed training zone!

  • If you have had a hectic day - allow time to sit comfortably or lie on your mat and take a few deep breaths to close your mind off to what was in your day, and ensure to give yourself permission for this time now to recharge and agree you will get back to ‘life’ when you have completed your ‘you‘ time. Sometimes our minds need reasoned with!

  • This is also good practice even if you haven’t had a hectic day! Whatever your day has been, prepare by slowing your mind down and being aware of your thoughts, take a few breaths and be aware of how your body is feeling. This is your tuning in time prior to the class starting. Then…set your intention for your practice - what is your goal for today?

  • We always give you choices, but choose wisely! After noting how you are feeling, work with your body and not against it. Just because we give you a stronger option, doesn’t mean you have to take it. That works both ways. If you are setting your intention for your practice to challenge yourself, then do, but still listen to your body and do what it feels it can manage within the challenge. Body and mind happiness results!

  • Remember what your reasons are for joining the classes in the first place - what brings you to your mat, what do you hope to gain? Focussing on your goals will help you to stay tuned in to follow along and challenge yourself. What you do is for yourself and no-one else, so make your actions work for you and your happiness.

  • Do remember this is live and online, we can see you! If there is something we need to advise you on, we will. Everyone is quieter on zoom, but if there is anything you want to ask or say -= we would love to hear it as we want to make this the best training space for you.

What a warm and wet summer!


Thank you for all your concern regarding my poor flooded car Bertha from the floods in Ballyclare a couple of weeks ago. Thankfully I have now been able to replace her with a new Bert! Insurance thankfully has kicked in! It's been a mad time!

With the last throws of summer left and schools starting back next week, it seemed appropriate to take a break as we just don't know what lies ahead. Busy schedules I'm thinking for the next few weeks for sure!

So the quick update:

Classes Update

  • If you are currently attending classes - can you please check your Mindbody account that you have completed the emergency contact person and contact number sections. This will update the system just in case (heaven forbid) something happens to you when you are on screen! Please check this asap thanks. (This can't be done in the APP, so login via the black link at the top of any page on my website tdracademy.co.uk.)

  • When back in the studio September, we are able to have 3 back in the studio for classes, unless social distancing changes again. You must contact me to book in for IN STUDIO as places are limited. Attendance will be on a rota basis if numbers wishing to attend are over 3.

  • If you wish to change to in studio from at home classes, please let me know as soon as possible as plans are being out in place and rota systems for those wishing to attend.

  • If you know you definitely want to stay online permanently going forward, please let Tanya know this also - as this will impact on how many spaces each class can have going forward.

Yoga With Your Own Personal Ulster Orchestra

Absolutely amazing - I can’t even do justice to the experience with just words.

Choreographing Yoga to live and totally consuming, specially composed pieces by composer Graeme Stewart and played by the Ulster Orchestra right behind me - spine tingling!! Why did this project happen? To support everyone that has an interest in music, Yoga and well-being for World Well-Being Week 2021 - 3 videos for practice on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It took many weeks of work, preparation, practice and editing to get the final versions to what we have released. We hope you love them as much as we do!

Why did this project happen?

To support everyone that has an interest in music, Yoga and well-being for World Well-Being Week 2021.

3 videos for practice on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

It took many weeks of work, preparation, practice and editing to get the final versions to what we have released.

A mindful approach to your well being - with a new experience. We only found one place in the world online that had combined Yoga to Orchestral live music - but I have to say, the orchestra have excelled and made this an experience I will never forget. This has been one of the best experiences of my life, and I have to say…it was WAY better than the other we found!!

I truly hope you enjoy listening to the music, watching the practice (knowing that I am just buzzing with gratitude and out of this world joy), and I invite you to join me with my own Yoga practice to feel and flow to the music.

I have intended the progress over the 3 sessions to grow.
The first is more mobilising and relaxing, the second more playful and the third more powerful…earning your relaxation.
They can be what you want them to be.

Time To Start Now & July Holidays

TDR Academy is closing for a holiday! The last few months have been very hard physically reacting to the COVID changes and the sheer busyness of the clinic, but also personally due to the sudden loss of my mother and moving house all around the same time. So I am taking a break, but as usual I do not want to leave you with nothing.

July Holidays for Classes

  • Please note that there will be no classes during the weeks from the 5th - 16th July 2021 - to give you time to get out exploring!

  • The Academy will be closed completely only from 3rd to 18th July 2021.

  • You can book online for classes and purchase class passes as normal if you want to get stuck in and plan your summer trainings! Follow the black link at the top of any website page to set up an account or sign in.


Appointments for Injury Therapy, 1:1s and Sports Massage

  • Tanya will be taking appointments from 19th July onwards although the diary is filling fast (fully booked prior to this)!

  • Online booking will again be available again from the afternoon of 2nd July 2021 as the waiting list will be completed by then.

  • Book in via Mindbody at the top of any page on the website from 2nd July 2021 - the black link to setup an account or sign in. If dates are unavailable, they are booked up - so you can get in touch by text or email and Tanya will see if there is anything going forward. [Update] Easing of Restrictions at TDR Academy April 2021

Government Restrictions (From April 2021)

GOOD NEWS!!

We are opening the doors to more services again! Whoop whoop!!

The sessions that can begin again - IN CLINIC Treatments and IN STUDIO Personal Training and Classes - are ALL subject to:

  • Completing the COVID questionnaire prior to entering the premises to screen you for suitability to attend,

  • Your temperature will be taken on entry,

  • Masks must be worn if in close contact (or a visor if medically exempt),

  • Social distancing must be maintained were possible,

  • Bring your own towels (3 large) for treatments and your own mat for exercise.


Tanya will be wearing PPE in the same stance and will continue to take all advised measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.


Massage and Pain/Injury Treatments - Close Contact Work

  • All hands on (close contact) services can resume from Friday 23rd April 2021.

  • I have been treating pain and injury only through lockdown but will be able to resume treating you with all forms of massage and relaxation sessions that I am trained in (Sports Massage, Swedish and Indian Head Massage, Aromatherapy and Reflexology).


1:1s Personal Training

  • All types of 1:1 training can begin again from Friday 30th April 2021 (Pilates Matwork, Pilates Reformer and other large equipment, Yoga, Stretching, Aerial Fitness, Body Conditioning).


To Book An Appointment

  • There is currently a waiting/cancellation list due to such high demand for appointments at present.

  • To book, please get in contact directly as the Mindbody online booking tool is not available at present.

Classes

  • The date is unconfirmed as yet for resuming indoor classes, but has been put forward as Monday 24th May.

  • Attendance will be under the same ‘subject to’ aspects highlighted at the start of this email.

To help me organise a return to suit your preferences, I would appreciate if you could update me as to your preference for attendance at this time of resuming in studio classes.

Due to current social distancing restrictions - only 2 will be able to attend per class and I will organise a rota system for those wishing to attend in studio for any specified classes.

A) Remain online at home for now

B) Attend in studio - at the class day/time I am currently attending

C) Attend in studio - please specify if a different day and time is needed (otherwise you can attend online whenever suits)

D) If an outdoor venue, day and time suited - I would like to attend an outdoor group session. (I am debating this but getting a location to suit based on interested numbers and reliable weather may be tricky! So mainly research at present! Ideas welcome!)

Once I have collated all responses, I will further update you on the classes if you have specified for B or C attending in studio, although I will wait until confirmation of the opening date to ensure no confusion of when to start.

How Are You Doing? Will A Yin Yoga Workshop Help You Out?

We’re not seeing each other anywhere near as much as we would all like, but it is great to connect with one another - either on our online Zoom classes, through our TDR Academy Tribe Facebook group, on our YouTube channel or on our other social media. We’re offering a Yin Yoga workshop on 5th February - come join me and Yinify our minds, bodies and energies! Let’s make our first Friday in February fabulous!


I get the impression from my social media feeds and chats with some of you at class and other friends and family that lockdown #3 is really getting people down. Yes, some of us are lucky enough to have time for those lockdown DIY and baking projects, skipping about in the woods and doing sunrise walks (!), but I know that is not the reality for many. Amongst my friends are people at both ends of the spectrum: out of work, alone at home and in need of company; or super busy with work and/or home schooling and not a minute to themselves to rest and recuperate, who definitely don't want a to-do list of great ideas or yet another reminder they haven't been to a yoga class, rather a way to remove things from the backlog!


What can I offer?

Not much perhaps but a friendly face and listening ear and hopefully some motivation to move to feel better :)

Going by a BBC article, less people are moving this lockdown, which ultimately will affect our mental health. In yoga, Sauca identifies how when we move, it affects how we feel - so move well and feel well. It might just be a little improvement if things are getting you down, but we have to start somewhere.

I know for me it is great to see so many of you on our online classes - to see your faces and have a wee chat. Not as much as we would all like, but it is great to connect with one another. If you aren't in the classes online, you're welcome to join me there and say hello to your class mates via Zoom at least.

Many of you though don't have time or access to the right tech, or the inclination to attend via Zoom. If you'd like some input, advice or just a chat, then do feel free to drop me an email. I'd be happy to hear from you! I have set up a Facebook group - TDR Academy of Movement & Therapy Tribe - for this purpose: to give you little ideas and thoughts to hopefully help you out in some way, but also as a platform to connect with others from the classes and those who have attended our wee space over the years. It is great to get chatting and have a bit of craic along the way!

As we don't have the personal connection often these days, I am sending you love and encouragement to keep on muddling through as the days are getting longer, Spring is on the way and the wheel will surely keep turning.

Remember I am here for appointments if you have any pain that is affecting your work and life or if you have had an injury - these are the only categories allowable at present. ☯️ Please arrive in the waiting room by 6.55pm so we can start on time. Access won’t be permitted after 7pm as this will disrupt the session.

  • ☯️ You will receive an email from Tanya with the Zoom link and password by 6.30pm on the day of the workshop to provide you with the sign in details. Please be sure to be in the waiting room by 6.55pm at the latest as entry will not be permitted once we start at 7pm due to the disruption this would cause to those already resting in Savasana pose.

  • Have the Zoom Cloud Meetings app downloaded onto your device (tablet, laptop, desktop or phone) and create an account, if you have never used it before.

Timings:

  • I will be opening the Zoom meeting waiting room from 6.50pm, so please enter by 6.55pm.

  • Have your Yin nest set-up with all your props so you are ready to go (see below).

  • We will start at 7pm, so if you are unable to make it by 7pm, I am truly sorry, but I will be unable to invite you in as it will disrupt the session for everyone else.

Mat and Room Set-up:

  • Set up your mat, rug or carpet in a quiet space. Ensure whatever you use that it is thick enough and comfortable for resting in poses for long periods.

  • Make sure you can see the video from your space and hear me and that I will be able to see you on your mat also. (Wear clothing of a different colour to your mat and background if possible!)

  • I recommend dim lighting although with enough that I can still see you!

  • Ensure you will be warm enough as you will be sitting still for long periods.

  • Have extra pillows and/or cushions to hand, maybe about 4. Feel free to use bolsters if you have any also.

  • If you could have 2 heavy-ish blankets, they may be useful if you need extra weight on your legs unless you have any sandbags to use, or if you feel cold throughout.

  • If you do not have enough blankets - you could use a large bath towel which can also roll up into a sausage if needed.

  • If you have yoga bricks, 2 would be useful, or the bath towel will also work and a cushion/pillow.

Music:

  • You can play any music you like in the background, preferably something you can drift to with no words. Youtube has many to choose from - just be sure to pick something that is 2 hours long to avoid having to change.

  • I will have you all on muted in the workshop so you can play it at a volume that is low enough to hear but not too loud that it is overpowering on your senses (or my voice so you can hear what to do!).

  • I will be recording the workshop, so if you would like to download it you can then have it saved for use at another time. Please keep it for your eyes only however thank you.

A little more about Yin Yoga (if you don’t know anything about it):

The practice of Yin Yoga is to stress the tissues of the body that we don’t usually access in the more energetic Yang style Yoga practices, such as the connective tissues, ligaments, tendons and bones. It invites you to slow down, soften, relax and be mindful, to gain experience of the energetic body and to become acquainted with our thought patterns. Ultimately it is to enhance our self awareness, tune our insight and access our own inner wisdom. Yin is about the feeling and involves “unhurried postures unstained by striving” (Sarah Powers).

To practice Yin is to bring forth the values of softening, patience, kindness, compassion, acceptance, surrendering and non striving. It will help people to feel more in a world that is so disconnected. On a physical level, we access and affect connective tissues that we don’t access in our Yang practices. The focus is on function and feeling rather than on aesthetics, which result in a more positive outcome for students. The poses and stretch sensations can be quite impactful and energetic despite seeking stillness through the longer holds. The time out to meditate and spend time with yourself is invaluable in today’s busy world.

TANYA’S APPOINTMENTS


During lockdowns, Tanya is available for emergency appointments only - for debilitating pain, an injury or for ongoing support for mental health. Elite athletes can avail of treatments at this time however. Please ring to arrange a phone or Zoom consultation to establish if Tanya can treat you at this time.

While any lockdown restrictions are in place, bookings need to go through Tanya. Once they are lifted, online booking is definitely recommended from the website or via the Mindbody app. This may not be available until January however due to demand.

[Update] Open for Business With Some Restrictions from 16th October 2020

Following the Government announcements for therapists to return to work from 6th July 2020, Tanya has been very busy carrying out the risk assessment, undertaking the return to work COVID-19 course and preparing the clinic for re-starting. This has involved updating all our online platforms, website, Mindbody and social media etc to reflect the changes in the COVID-19 policies for return to work, and to ensure we are keeping everyone as safe as possible.

Following the recent Government announcement, some new restrictions have been put in place regarding Covid-19 from 6pm on Friday 16th October for 4 weeks at present. We have been busy trying to implement and rejig to fit in as best we can whilst fully adhering to the restrictions put in place, to still keep supporting you through these difficult times.

The summary of the current changes and what’s available and not available:

❌ In light of the recent government's announcements, I will be unable to have classes indoors for 4 wks from 6pm fri 16th October 2020.

So the 2:1 private sessions alongside the online sessions will be stopped again frustratingly for potentially the next 4wks. We also have to stop close contact work, despite the stringent measures we were taking including cleaning regimes, ppe and screening.

🌈The good news in what we can offer🌈:

✅ Tanya can still see you in the clinic for a 1:1 session without close contact work - we can still go through assessment, self care strategies and rehab plan advice.

✅ Tanya can still see you in the studio for a 1:1 personal exercise training session, however, without any hands on corrections - so personal exercise planning and practice to include Pilates Matwork and Reformer and other large equipment, Yoga, and any body conditioning and 1:1 Aerial Fitness. These can be for any level of injury or fitness.

✅ All of our online classes are here to stay forever! So you will always have that option for training with us no matter what restrictions they place now. Hopefully in studio will be back soon.

✅ Our online consultations and 1:1s are also still available forever online so you can book that with Tanya privately currently. These can be for assessment, self care strategies and rehab plan advice.

I will be emailing all of our members to keep you up to date with the frustrating new closures and about what is available currently and about rebooking those sessions with close contact work, for those that had sessions booked in over the next coming months.


Coming to the Studio/Clinic:

  • We ask clients to wash/sanitise your hands before and after visiting the clinic.

  • Please complete the COVID-19 screening questionnaire the day prior to attending and on the morning before your session.

  • If you do feel unwell, we ask that you remain at home until feeling better.

  • If you display any of the COVID-19 symptoms, please do not visit our studio for at least 14 days.

  • Please wear a face covering when you enter the building and in the clinic.

  • We will take your temperature on entry and if 37.8°C or higher, we will be unable to allow you entry for your session as that is a sign of a fever and we will advise you to isolate at home and arrange for a test.

  • Please remember to bring your own water bottle and drink regularly, and bring your own tissues.

  • Please bring your own gloves if using the Pilates reformer (for 1:1s for exercise) and your own mat for floor based exercise.

  • Please do not be attend with another individual for your appointment as they will not be permitted to enter.

  • Be assured, Tanya and Jo will wear PPE as required under the guidelines and we are following all advised measures and more in some cases.


We will continue to monitor the situation as it develops in line with advice from the Government and relevant health authorities and issue updates at such times.

Together we can all maintain a responsible and cautious approach to limiting the spread of this virus and protecting the more vulnerable members of our society whilst keeping a positive attitude.

I have now been in Ballyclare for 10 years this August 2020!

The time has flown in! I still can't believe it and how much it has grown!
I would like to personally say thank you to each and every one of you that have attended the clinic and studio over these 10 years, and a big thank you to those that have attended sessions with me within the 12 years prior to starting TDR Academy! Thankful and grateful and blessed that you have chosen me and that I have been able to help you (I always hope!) in your body management and movements goals.

Classes Update

Classes at TDR Academy are still online due to the responses from our last email out to current members. Some of you wish to stay online permanently - so we have been busy making that a reality for the future! The tech is mostly in place and has been tested and so far - is working. This also means you will get a recording of the class to download to do again at home when it suits you whether you attend in studio or at home.

In some of the classes, we are starting to open up 2 spaces for attendance in studio while teaching to all other members online over Zoom. If this is something you are interested in, then let me know as based on interest, we may have to do a rota system.

This is a personal choice to attend in studio classes as we will be online permanently to allow for safe and continued home practice. It is also a nice option if you are running behind time wise or just don't feel like travelling (or so that you can just roll into bed after!). It can also open up the choice to attend as many classes as you like each week under the live and unlimited passes, which are also here to stay!

Just a wee reminder - please ensure to join the waiting room online prior to your class start time, as joining late causes disruption to the class if it is already started. You risk not being picked up in the waiting room after the start time as both Tanya and Jo will be further from the screen and it is hard to see. If a relaxation session is being conducted at the start, you may have to wait to be allowed to enter to avoid disruption. We are placing the cut off for entry at up to 10 minutes late, but ask that you attend on time as best as possible. You can still avail of the recording which will be sent to you automatically if you are signed up for a class but are too late to join or cannot attend.

Even if you have never attended before - you can simply sign up online by booking a class and get started with us online! Come and join us!!


Attending In Studio Classes

I have been putting in place best practice procedures along side the COVID-19 guidelines, and I am continually checking for the latest updates. The email you receive when you now book a class and the reminders of your class will have all these details in them. They are quite lengthy (sorry!) as they are automatic emails which apply to appointments for treatments, classes or workshops, so I have had to include details for all. Please read to ensure we are all on the same page!


The Essentials 'Need to Knows' for Attending TDR Academy

  • Complete the COVID-19 Pre-Appointment Questionnaire the day prior and on the morning of your booking. (We need to know the day prior incase you need to cancel and we need sufficient time to enable someone to avail of your space if you are unable to attend. Things can change overnight, so keep us up to date thanks that morning before attending - either complete the form again or text me to say NO change, or if you now can't attend based on any change to your responses.)

  • Arrive on time (we cannot let you in early unless pre-arranged and late will disrupt the movement of individuals or signing in of online members).

  • Bring minimal items apart from the items requested for your booking - face covering, water and a pen and 3 towels for treatments and your mat and any needed props for classes).

  • Use the hand sanitiser provided and await to have your temperature taken before making your way upstairs.

  • Use the plastic storage buckets for your belongings.

  • If making a payment, ideally do this online via our Mindbody booking software prior, or we can do this when you arrive, or bring the correct cash in an envelope.

  • Wear you mask when moving within the building and within the treatment room. In classes, once on your mat you may remove your mask.

  • Windows will be open, so wear enough layers to feel warm.

  • Bring a smile - as we are happy to see you back in the clinic and the studio!

The clinic for pain and injury treatments and massages is in full swing, and I am working hard at everything behind the scenes to get back up to normal hours of practice. Bookings are busy, but get booking and we will see you soon!

Try to book online via Mindbody as this is the smoothest way to book (if the app isn't working well, use the black. link at the top of any of our web pages to login to Mindbody over your web browser). If you are stuck, texts are best for me to see quickest and easiest and I will get back to you when I can.
