In a typical treatment session the assessment and post treatment advice covers about half of a session normally and all the information and testing is hugely beneficial to start you on the road to healing.

The more self care of your own body management you take, the quicker you recover, within the confines of specific tailored advice to improve and monitor the recovery and development progress.

Whether it is an acute or chronic injury, or a chronic pain inducing and movement restricting condition, Tanya can:

  • Assess you to establish what is the best current advice to apply at home to help speed up the recovery

  • Advise on self treatment methods to apply yourself to alleviate symptoms

  • Plan and lead you through specifically tailored advice and exercises to enable improvement in your range of movement and functional capability to aid recovery

  • Plan an exercise plan to encourage correct muscle firing patterns, to reduce tight and painful muscles and other soft tissues, to strengthen to enforce good movement patterns - ultimately to build the body up to aid recovery back to normal activities of daily living (ADLs) and to enable return to any exercise methods of choice at any level.

  • Provide you with the necessary tools for independant self care and body management through knowing WHAT TO DO and HOW TO DO IT.

  • Position your camera (in selfie mode to test it) in such a way as we can see as much of you as possible on screen. We can help advise you when you sign in to be sure we see you.

  • Ensure you device is fully charged or that you can be plugged in - so we don’t lose you!

  • Try to wear different coloured clothing to your background so we can see you!

  • A stability ball if joining this class - ask Tanya for advice if you need to purchase one online.

  • All our other classes are planned without using props, but if you have any at home, then place them near you and we can prompt you to use them if we see them - if they may be helpful.

Sad face - In response to the daily changing environment - all classes are now closed for the foreseeable future at the studio. We will miss our (occasional) blue sky view from the studio!

Happy face - We will be getting online interactive classes up and running very soon - hoping to start with just a few amendments to the timetable only. This is all subject to change based on government advice. However we will try to continue to look after you as best we can taking all necessary measures for cleaning, hygiene and safety. We ask that you follow all advice upon entering the premises:

  • Use the hand gel provided on entry before ascending the stairs.

  • Be prepared to make payment via card preferably to reduce contact again.

  • Do not attend if you have any symptoms of fever or a cough.

  • Do not attend if you have been in contact with someone that has symptoms or is needing to isolate, until you are free of symptoms for 14days.

  • Cancel at the earliest point if you cannot attend, to enable us to have time to allocate the appointment to another client.

Everyones safety is our priority, including our own. We want to be sure your physical and mental health is being looked after so we will continue to work as it is safe to do so.

Just a reminder on the current advice:

What you can do:

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze

  • Put used tissues in the bin straight away

  • Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

  • Wash your hands with soap and water often – use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.

  • Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

  • Anyone with a new, continuous cough or high temperature (37.8 degrees and above) is advised to self-isolate for seven days

  • If you are worried about symptoms, please call your GP. Do not go directly to your GP or other healthcare environment.

What we are doing:

  • On top of our normal studio cleaning procedures, TDR Academy has introduced a number of additional hygiene measures to allow us to continue working within our community:

  • We have intensified our day-to-day cleaning of the Studio

  • We wipe banister rails, door handles etc each day with alcohol based wipes. Current advice is that the virus does not live long exposed on dry porous surfaces (like blankets, bolsters) and anti-baterical wipes don't work against a virus

  • We now have paper towels and sterile hand wash - and our team are washing their hands more regularly

  • We have introduced additional hand gel stations, which we ask students to use when they arrive and before they leave

  • If our team have any symptoms, we will cancel any classes or treatments at the earliest notice possible

Coming to the Clinic and Home Practice for Your Mat:

  • We ask clients to wash your hands before and after visiting the clinic and your mat and to clean the mat that is being used before and after use.

  • If you do feel unwell, we ask that you remain at home and self isolate until feeling better

  • If you display any of these symptoms, please do not visit our clinic for at least 14 days.

  • Please remember to have your own water bottle and drink regularly, eg every 15 minutes minimum, and bring your own tissues.

  • For those clients affected by any possible school closures, please do not bring your children to the clinic..

Coronavirus Precautions at TDR Academy

We will continue to monitor the situation as it develops in line with advice from the Government and relevant health authorities and issue updates at such times. We will remain open until then as we work on a 1:1 in our treatment sessions and have a maximum of 9:1 ratio in our classes. Follow the advice as we will. If you have any symptoms - stay home and stay safe!

It's a worrying time both locally and globally with the coronavirus illness now being described as a pandemic. So we thought we'd share some of the advice and information, and let you know what we're doing.

We really believe that what we're offering here at TDR Academy is worth so much in terms of general mental and physical health, and that we're here to help our Tribe over the coming weeks.


Symptoms of coronavirus and COVID19:

  • a cough

  • a high temperature

  • shortness of breath

But these symptoms do not necessarily mean you have the illness.

The symptoms are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, such as cold and flu.


How it’s spread:

An infected person coughs or sneezes. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.


It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has had a virus on it, and then touching their own mouth, nose or eyes. However, this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.


Most people who contract COVID-19 are thought to show mild or very few symptoms. Common symptoms include fever, cough, and / or shortness of breath.


What you can do:

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze

  • Put used tissues in the bin straight away

  • Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

  • Wash your hands with soap and water often – use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.

It's Newbie Season at TDR Academy of Movement and Therapy

We want you to feel the difference that both Yoga and Pilates can have for your body and mind!

There are many crossovers between Yoga and Pilates and each can be useful to you in many ways.   • Are you aware of feeling tight muscles and stiffness, a general lack of mobility and maybe notice your breathing feels shallow? Maybe you’re feeling stressed and tense? Then, Yoga is for you!

  • Do you feel that your posture is not always where it should be, that daily life tasks are a challenge? Maybe you’re getting niggles and weaknesses, or are dealing with injuries or getting back issues? Do you need to work on the smaller muscles to improve your other training activities and boost your mobility? Then, Pilates is for you!

One thing we hear a lot is that people are put off going to classes in gyms and larger studios as they’ve either hurt themselves or don’t learn how to do the movements correctly. Our focus here is on helping you learn these movements and how they feel in your body so that you can keep good technique as much and as often as possible. We’ll help you learn when you are out of alignment and how to correct or modify for the best effect and safe progression.

We are small in size and mighty - the smallest class sizes around - with you as our focus. Our classes are suitable for various levels and attended by both males and females. We provide constant attention to help your movement practice as we coach - we don't do the class - we watch you and keep you the focus! We also encourage a bit of craic too - all exercise needs to be fun!

We have limited mats available and our classes are run in blocks of 6 weeks to give your body and mind time to absorb - and learn - the difference:

Mondays:

  • 7.30pm Beginners Pilates Fundamentals - suitable for complete beginners.

  • 8.30pm Yoga - Currently Full - taking names on the waiting list.

Tuesdays:

  • NEW CLASS - 10am New to Yoga (starting 5th November) - suitable for complete beginners

  • 6.30pm Yoga - Open level (the level requires that you have some knowledge of Yoga practice)

  • 7.40pm New to Yoga - suitable for complete beginners.

Wednesdays:

  • 7.30pm Open Level Pilates (must have completed the fundamentals class to join this class)

  • 8.30pm Open Level Pilates (must have completed the fundamentals class to join this class)

Thursdays:

  • 10am Open Level Pilates (must have completed the fundamentals class to join this class) - Currently Full - taking names on the waiting list.

  • 6.30pm Open Level Pilates (must have completed the fundamentals class to join this class)

  • 7.30pm Beginners Pilates Fundamentals - suitable for complete beginners. Currently Full - taking names on the waiting list.

You can start this week in our classes - subject to space as booking and payment secures your mat!

New Beginners Pilates Class Starting 26th September!

Our new Pilates Beginners Class is starting on Thursday 26th September at 11am. Sign up now to start your Pilates Method journey as this class is suitable for injuries, back care and also post natal. Also check out our latest class timetable at TDR Academy of Movement and Therapy in Ballyclare as we have some spaces still available in the other Pilates, Yoga and Aerial Fitness classes - though they are filling fast! New Beginners Pilates Class

We have a new Pilates Beginners 6 week class starting on Thursday 26th September at 11am (subject to numbers).

  • This class is suitable for anyone that is new to Pilates or is wanting to recap their fundamentals.

  • We also cater for those suffering from injuries and back pain, and are post natal (6wks post natural birth and 12wks post C-Section).

  • It’s at the perfect time to get sorted in your mornings, kids to school, do the shop run and then take an hour for yourself before hitting life again!

  • We plan for 6 weeks to ensure you learn each Pilates fundamental and have time to learn and feel the difference of the Pilates Method.

The 6 week class pass is £53 for the smallest and most personalised classes you will find in Ballyclare and we offer catch classes if life gets in the way within the 6 weeks and some online support to help you with home practice to deepen the benefits.

July Holidays Update

July Holidays

  • Please note that there will be no classes during the week of the 8th - 12th July - to give you time to get out exploring!

  • The Academy will be closed completely only from 9th to 14th July.

Yin yoga workshop on 15th July

Because it’s so popular, Tanya’s holding another yin yoga workshop on Monday 15th July 7.30-9.30pm - a great wee treat to yourself after the holiday week.  Take the time to enhance your self awareness, tune your insight and access your own inner wisdom. Lisburn Half Marathon on 19th June

Amazing news! Gary and his colleagues were at the Lisburn Half Marathon last week supporting the runners by providing recovery advice and pre and post event sports massage for all runners entered - and all for a good cause!

They raised £72.20 on the night for the MS Society NI, bringing the total we've raised for this brilliant charity to over £600!!!

Lisburn Half Marathon - Let us help you prepare and recover!

We’re delighted to say that Gary and his colleagues will be there supporting the runners at this year’s Lisburn Half Marathon by providing recovery advice and pre AND post event sports massage from 5.30-9.30pm for all runners entered.

Are you taking part in next week’s Lisburn Half Marathon on 19th June? It’s the ‘Flat & Fast’ route again this year for the half marathon and the 10k road race, perfect for runners aiming for personal bests, whether you’re an experienced competitive runner or a beginner. The 3k Fun Run is the race of choice if you want to run with family and friends and take part in the whole marathon experience!

When We are Available

We’re delighted to say that Gary and his colleagues will be there supporting the runners by providing recovery advice and pre AND post event sports massage from 5.30-9.30pm for all runners entered.

  • Spaces are limited and last just 10-15mins (depending on numbers).

  • Donations are very welcome for this service, with suggestions at £5, and our chosen charity for all  donations this year is the MS Society.

New Year, New You

Whatever your new year resolutions and goals are we reckon that at TDR Academy we have something for everyone and that our personal approach to your body management will mean that you’re still on track a long time after 1st January!

Happy new year to ye all! How was your break? Did you get much done or was it that twilight time when you spend the week after Christmas not having a clue what day it is? We kind of like that for a while, but we’re ready to get going again now and try out our new year’s resolutions.

Did you know that according to a recent UK poll, the most common New Year's resolutions include:

  • Eat more healthily (32%)

  • Take a more active approach to health (15%)

  • Learn new skill or hobby (15%)

  • Spend more time on personal wellbeing (12%)

Rewards Schemes


We have been running a rewards and loyalty scheme through Mindbody for the last number of month and some of you have been earning away! Sadly Mindbody have changed their packages and it is no longer available to us as a service. We would like to thank you for your participation with this scheme and of course love that you continue to refer people to us and are making use of booking services and classes online. The last date for this service will be the end of December to give us time to credit your accounts with what you have earned before it is removed from the system. You will then avail of the points that have made monies when you next purchase a service at TDR after 3rd Jan 2019.

Class Updates

We know this doesn't have very often - we currently have some spaces in:

Olga's Pilates for Beginners / Early Intermediate class - Mondays 7.30pm

Jo’s Yoga Medicine class - Tuesdays 6.30pm and 7.40pm (Please note that these classes will be changing slightly in January. They will become a separate Yin Yoga class and a Vinyasa Flow class.)

Tanya's Pilates for Open Level - Wednesdays 8.30pm

Block booking for 6 weeks is available to reserve your mat regularly for the best results of consistent practice. PAYG spaces are also available.

GDPR Final Update

I'm sure you remember the onslaught of emails that struck us all asking about privacy and subscriptions forthe new General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") that came into effect 25th May 2018. We did our first batch of changes back in the Spring to make us GDPR compliant.  We have further updated our processes and since this date, when you have attended in the Clinic or Studio we have asked you to complete a new form giving consents where you prefer, based on our requirements.  You are still on our mailing list from before as we had previously gained written consent from you - which is why you are receiving this email.

These emails provide you with an opportunity to hear of our updates about holiday closing periods, current and upcoming classes, workshops and treatments as well as special offers (watch this space for one coming soon!).

We hope that our content is useful to you and that we can continue to keep you informed and up-to-date with what we can offer you, including new workshops, events and videos and we promise not to bombard you!

September News & Updates from TDR Academy

New classes starting soon and new developments for Jo and Tanya - have a read of the latest blog post to find out more exciting news!

Welcome back #TDRAcademyTribe and we hope you’ve had a great summer? What were your highlights? For Tanya it was being introduced to the paddle-board and getting to spend time on the North coast and all over Donegal developing her surfing skills would definitely be in the Top Five high points this year!

But it’s September now and time to settle back into a routine - time to return to work or school, time to book in new classes and, for Tanya and Jo, it’s time to pack their suitcase once more!

They’re both away to Spain on the final week’s training for Yoga Medicine from 14th - 22nd September with the big exam at the end. Good luck to them both!

As before, Tanya’s arranged cover for all the classes while she’s away with Olga and Tracy stepping in to make sure you don’t miss out. Obviously there’ll be no appointments with Tanya for that week, but Gary is around to offer top class sports massages - to book access the online booking system by clicking on the black link on any page from the website and create an account or login and search for a suitable appointment. You can also book via the MindBody app but it is not as up-to-date as the full desktop version of mindbody. You can text Tanya on 07879 415711, or email info@tdracademy.co.uk or Facebook message us and we’ll reply when we’re back to get you booked in for whatever you need - but remember that will be from the 23rd!!


New Classes Coming Soon with Our Newest Teacher!

This term, we’re also delighted to welcome Alana Johnston onto the TDR Academy team as our newest teacher. She’ll be offering a  6.30pm stretch and flex class and a 7.30pm aerial hoop beginners classes - both on Wednesdays. We’ve no set date as yet but we’re hoping for October. If you’re interested contact Tanya to put your name on the waiting list as we expect them to book out quickly!

With a passion for pole dancing, Alana is also into adult gymnastics and circus classes! Through teaching pole fitness, she was introduced to aerial hoop and fell in love with the strength, grace and skill needed in combination with the flexibility. And that love of flexibility brought her to yoga - which she is now bringing to you! Watch this space for dates.

Tanya is Taking A Break - TDR Academy is still in full flow!

From Monday 20th - Friday 31st August Tanya is taking a well earned break to rejuvenate by doing all things Pilates, Yoga,  Surf and Acroyoga! But don’t panic! All classes are still on as the lovely Olga, Jo, Anna, Tina and our newest teacher Alana will be covering to keep you working hard!

Except that for some of this month Tanya won’t have to imagining - she’ll be living the dream as she goes away on her holidays!

From Monday 20th - Friday 31st August Tanya is taking a well-earned break to rejuvenate by doing all things Pilates, Yoga,  Surf, Surfskate and Acroyoga! You’ve seen her photos on Facebook and Instagram as she gains experience and confidence playing with stand-up paddle boarding around the local coastline, and she’s planning on practising a whole lot more over her two weeks off to get back up on the waves. Photos will be posted - to prove i'm not on a lazy holiday!!

But, before you panic and think ‘But what about my massages and classes?’, DON’T WORRY!!  All classes are still on as normal with the lovely Olga, Jo, Anna, Tina and our newest teacher Alana covering to keep you working hard!

And of course, Gary will be available to take appointments for preventative, maintenance and pre and post event Sports Massage on Monday day times, and Wednesday and Thursday evenings.  As Tanya will be away - it will be best to book online via the  as she will have limited contact by text and email. Just follow the black link at the top of any page on our website to create an account if you are new to TDR Academy or login if you have been with us before.  You can search the appointments calendar and book in directly yourself or get in touch with Gary directly on 07803162070.

Tanya will be back on Monday 3rd September and will be ready to get back into the full swing on the new term - as well as taking a big yoga exam later on in the month! Updates will be posted about any available class spaces for September soon - so if you are interested keep liking our social media pages and content to be kept uptodate.  As ever you can book in online for any appointments with Tanya via Mindbody while Tanya is away.  There is currently limited appointments left for the weeks starting 2nd September but have a look and see what suits, or get in touch with Tanya and she will get back on her return.

Calling the TDR Academy Tribe - VOTE NOW!!

It’s that time of year again and we’re asking you to make a huge TDR Academy impact on the 2018 Ballyclare Business Awards. The Awards are a great way to recognise businesses that support Ballyclare and who take pride in their products, services as well as our local area. And two years on, we still firmly believe that’s us!
