This 50 minute stretching session takes you through a slow and modified sun salutation from Yoga to bring an active stretch into many areas of the body
Followed by some specific hip and upper body opening stretches to bring a deeper stretch into these specific areas
There are options to go gentle and options to go further depending on your current needs

Do You Stretch? Simple Question - Right?
Whilst listening to a podcast on neurodynamics, and reflecting on the many conversations i have in the clinic and in classes, and the myths that are sometimes spread on social media in response to fads and to 1 research study on 17 people (so of course this applies to everyone and everything 🤦♀️) that the take away points are often misled in a person’s personal situation.🤷♀️
I have studied for many years and fads come and go and research that says one thing, well if you keep reading you will find another research study that says the opposite! It makes it hard for people to discern what to do and what not to do.🤷♂️
Why do you stretch??
☺️ My office on Saturday past….to continue with more cpd with a sea view - good for the soul.
The knowledge journey is never ending as we can never know it all…its all a learning journey that helps us with work, rest and play.

I’m a believer that you do what works, and self experimenting under the advice of someone that is qualified, experienced and well researched is key, and that also practices what they preach for realism!✋
I try to do all of this to give my version of best advice and offer best practice.👌
So it got me thinking, as self relection is something i’ve always done (and I always advise!):
❓Do you stretch?
❓ Do you know when to stretch?
❓ Do you know why you stretch?
❓ Do you know what tissues you are stretching?
❓ Do you know there are many different methods of how to stretch?
❓ Do you know how long to hold stretches for or what to feel, to know if you are ‘doing it right’?
❓ Do you know what bodily factors can assist or hinder stretching?
❓ Do you know what other modalities can aid stretching to be more or less effective?
❓ Do you know that specific stretching methods can have different effects on different tissues and on different injuries and medical conditions?
❓ Do you when stretching is safe and not safe to do?
❓ Do you know that there are different suggestions for different sports, daily activities, hobbies, injuries, medical conditions, rehab, selfcare, yoga, Pilates, fitness, warm ups and cool downs?
Alot of questions, as stretching ain’t as simple as it first seems.🆘
✳️ Skin, fascia/connective tissues, muscles, tendons, ligaments, joint capsules, bone lengths, joints shapes, fatty tissues, nerves are all impacted by stretching and can have an impact on its success.
✅ The American College of Sports Medicine have recommended that we should stretch 6 days a week, would you know what to do?
Multifaceted for sure!
So when i ask you, or you ask yourself if you stretch, think about your answer. You now have an idea if I go quiet, what questions I want to ask you - and thats just the tip of the iceberg!! And then I ask gently!😬

We know this doesn't have very often - we currently have some spaces in:
*Olga's Pilates for Beginners / Early Intermediate class - Mondays 7.30pm
*Jo’s Yoga Medicine class - Tuesdays 6.30pm and 7.40pm (Please note that these classes will be changing slightly in January. They will become a separate Yin Yoga class and a Vinyasa Flow class.)
*Tanya's Pilates for Open Level - Wednesdays 8.30pm
*Tanya's Pilates for Open Level - Thursdays 6.30pm
*Tanya's Pilates for Beginners / Early Intermediate class - Thursdays 7.30pm
Block booking for 6 weeks is available to reserve your mat regularly for the best results of consistent practice. PAYG spaces are also available.

GDPR Final Update
I'm sure you remember the onslaught of emails that struck us all asking about privacy and subscriptions forthe new General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") that came into effect 25th May 2018. We did our first batch of changes back in the Spring to make us GDPR compliant. We have further updated our processes and since this date, when you have attended in the Clinic or Studio we have asked you to complete a new form giving consents where you prefer, based on our requirements. You are still on our mailing list from before as we had previously gained written consent from you - which is why you are receiving this email.
These emails provide you with an opportunity to hear of our updates about holiday closing periods, current and upcoming classes, workshops and treatments as well as special offers (watch this space for one coming soon!).
We hope that our content is useful to you and that we can continue to keep you informed and up-to-date with what we can offer you, including new workshops, events and videos and we promise not to bombard you!

September News & Updates from TDR Academy
New classes starting soon and new developments for Jo and Tanya - have a read of the latest blog post to find out more exciting news!
Welcome back #TDRAcademyTribe and we hope you’ve had a great summer? What were your highlights? For Tanya it was being introduced to the paddle-board and getting to spend time on the North coast and all over Donegal developing her surfing skills would definitely be in the Top Five high points this year!
But it’s September now and time to settle back into a routine - time to return to work or school, time to book in new classes and, for Tanya and Jo, it’s time to pack their suitcase once more!
They’re both away to Spain on the final week’s training for Yoga Medicine from 14th - 22nd September with the big exam at the end. Good luck to them both!
As before, Tanya’s arranged cover for all the classes while she’s away with Olga and Tracy stepping in to make sure you don’t miss out. Obviously there’ll be no appointments with Tanya for that week, but Gary is around to offer top class sports massages - to book access the online booking system by clicking on the black link on any page from the website and create an account or login and search for a suitable appointment. You can also book via the MindBody app but it is not as up-to-date as the full desktop version of mindbody. New Classes Coming Soon with Our Newest Teacher!
This term, we’re also delighted to welcome Alana Johnston onto the TDR Academy team as our newest teacher. She’ll be offering a 6.30pm stretch and flex class and a 7.30pm aerial hoop beginners classes - both on Wednesdays. We’ve no set date as yet but we’re hoping for October. If you’re interested contact Tanya to put your name on the waiting list as we expect them to book out quickly!
With a passion for pole dancing, Alana is also into adult gymnastics and circus classes! Through teaching pole fitness, she was introduced to aerial hoop and fell in love with the strength, grace and skill needed in combination with the flexibility. And that love of flexibility brought her to yoga - which she is now bringing to you! Watch this space for dates.

Beginner/Early Intermediate Pilates with Olga Edwards
- Beginners sessions are open to those with no experience or are a bit rusty, as the focus is on the fundamentals.
- Pilates allows your body to function in a more co-ordinated way through precise, controlled and effective movements, through a strong central core and focus on your breath.
- Benefits include improved mobility, flexibility, all-over strength, posture and core stability.
- Mondays 7.30pm
- Starts on Monday 24th July for a 6 week block at £50.
Olga’s passion for Pilates will be apparent as soon as you meet her:
“I found that I would tell everyone and anyone who would listen that they should try Pilates...I hope to pass on my love for Pilates to everyone who attends my classes. Not only does Pilates strengthen your core muscles (and all those little tiny ones we tend to ignore), and improve your posture, it also gives you confidence in yourself and your abilities with the progression that you can see and feel.”
Total Body Stretch for All Levels with Jo Burns
- Drawing from a variety of methods of Yoga, sports stretching and partner support, this class will help you achieve longer, looser muscles.
- The focus will be on relaxing your muscles and on breathing through your movements.
- Benefits include releasing tight muscles, improving mobility and flexibility, and aiding recovery from sport, hobbies, work and life!
- Suitable for any level as modifications can be given to help you find your own level.
- Tuesdays 7.30pm
- Starts on Tuesday 25th July for a 4 week block at the reduced rate of £26.
Jo's commitment to Yoga and stretching the body for better health is at the heart of her teaching:
“I truly believe a healthy body and mind improves the quality of life, which is why I'm passionate about exercise...Through regular and focused stretching I believe we are able to increase our flexibility, while at the same time, extend the longevity for participation in high impact sport, or in whatever your work life, passions and hobbies take you through. We only get one body - so together, let's look after it!"
Both Olga and Jo have been teaching at TDR Academy the past few months, building up their experience while studying hard to achieve their qualifications. We’re so excited to have them as part of our team here! Jo and Olga have been committed students at TDR Academy in Yoga and Pilates for over 5 years and you may well have met them already or seen photos on our Facebook page of them too, as they’ve both caught the acro-bug and feature regularly!

- All classes must be booked and pre-paid in advance to secure your place.
- Discounted price for block booking or drop-in rate available as payg.
- Priority will be given to block bookings.
